Like any Mediterranean country, Cyprus is famed for its temperate climate. Cyprus epitomizes the ideal weather of the Mediterranean region, with over three hundred days of sunshine a year. Seasonal changes aren’t dramatic, meaning that every month is generally warm and sunny.
In Cyprus, summer lasts from May to October, and scuba diving, swimming, and a whole host of other water sports are common. Some people enjoy exploring the archaeological ruins the area offers, although it is advised to explore these in the early morning or evening, avoiding the hottest part of the day. The high temperatures and cloud free skies makes Cyprus a wonderful place to spend the summer, and is part of the reason why buying property in Cyprus is so attractive a prospect. In the height of summer temperatures can reach levels as high as 32C (90F) on the beaches, with the temperature rising further inland. Sunscreen and other protection in the form of sun hats or other sun shielding devices are highly advised. Cyprus has a number of festivals throughout the year, including the annual wine festival which takes place in the first ten days of September in the city of Limassol. Limassol, known as Lemesos in Greece and Limasol, or Leymosun in Turkey, is the second largest city in Cyprus.
Autumn begins towards the end of October, but little changes beyond the colour of the leaves. The temperature does not become noticeably cold, and even the middle of November could be summer, if it were not for the glorious red and gold hues of autumn leaves against clear skies. Around the end of November and throughout the month of December, the weather may become slightly cooler, and slightly warmer clothing may be advisable. Even in the very middle of winter, the sea remains warm enough to swim in, and further inland, wine tasting in vineyards and villages to explore await. Autumn also hails the arrival of the Kypria festival, which includes a number of local and international drama and musical performances at a number of venues throughout Cyprus.
The Cyprus winter lasts from December to February, and there is a chance of rain throughout these months. However, on average there is still around six hours of sunshine a day throughout these months.
Throughout the year, Cyprus remains sunny, warm, and the perfect temperate Mediterranean climate, something which those looking to buy property in Cyprus may appreciate after a typical British “summer”.
