Located in Northern Cyprus, Kyrenia is the only district of Cyprus completely under Turkish control, something that can make things challenging for those who wish to invest in property in Cyprus. However, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus will often have lower property prices than the People’s Republic of Southern Cyprus simply because it is such a challenging area in which to purchase real estate, and this can be of benefit to those wishing to purchase property in Kyrenia or Northern Cyprus. Despite rapid growth and development since the 1970s, Kyrenia and Northern Cyprus have maintained a policy to protect their natural areas.
Reaching the area may not be the easiest of journeys. Direct flights to Northern Cyprus are only available from Turkey, requiring a stopover. Even airlines which do offer so-called direct flights will have a stopover in Turkey. Some people take advantage of this, and see Istanbul or other Turkish cities during their journey. It’s also possible to travel to Southern Cyprus, and from there, head to the northern side of the island, but unfortunately, travellers may find that returning to Southern Cyprus is trickier than getting into Northern Cyprus. Airlines which offer flights to Northern Cyprus are Cyprus Turkish Airlines and Turkish Airlines, and flights are available from London, Glasgow, Manchester and Dublin.
Northern Cyprus shares with Southern Cyprus a temperate and Mediterranean climate, with hot summers and occasionally, although rarely, rainy winters. The mountainous regions of Cyprus have cooler temperatures than the lowlands, and travellers may enjoy visiting the Kyrenia and Pentadactylos mountains during the warmer days of summer. Like in all areas of Cyprus, water sports such as scuba diving and snorkelling are common on the island and in the summer months, something which may create an incentive for people who enjoy such things to buy property in Northern Cyprus and Kyrenia.
Northern Cyprus covers a fairly large area, and house prices can differ. On average, house prices in Northern Cyprus are lower than in Southern Cyprus and most of Europe, something which is, in part, due to the difficulty in entering Northern Cyprus. One bedroom apartments can be bought from £25,000 in many areas of Northern Cyprus, while villas with two bedrooms and two bedrooms sell for as little as £67,000.
